Sugary or acidic foods and drinks such as citrus fruit juices and fizzy drinks are a primary cause of tooth decay. It is important to try and cut down on the consumption of these foods and drinks, which soften the enamel on your teeth, or at least try and limit them to meal times. Foods such as cheese, fruit, nuts and vegetables make good substitutes. It is also recommended you wait an hour after eating before brushing your teeth, to allow the enamel to harden again.
Our hygienists are happy to discuss diet in relation to your dental health and any habits such as smoking and drinking, which can also affect your oral and dental health. Alternatively, contact Paul Barnes, our Specialist Periodontist, who’s more than happy to help.
