If you have one or more missing teeth, or are struggling with loose and uncomfortable dentures, dental implants provide a long-lasting, life-changing solution to bring back the look and function of your natural smile.
While dental implant treatment can sound daunting at first, possibly due to the time investment, the financial investment, or the fact that some very minor surgery is involved – there’s really no need to be nervous, especially in the safe hands of our talented team at Ringley Park.
In this blog post, we’ll break down the facts about dental implant treatment, including why it’s so beneficial and how implants can include your quality of life. We’ll also introduce you to our team of friendly and highly qualified implant dentists.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial structure that provides a long-term replacement for missing teeth. It is essentially a small titanium screw that is implanted into the jawbone to provide a strong foundation for a prosthetic crown, bridge, or to anchor dentures. Once fitted, the dental implant will look, act and feel just like a natural tooth.
Why dental implants are a life-changing solution for missing teeth
- Restore the look of your natural smile
The titanium implant is hidden completely below the gum line, leaving a colour-matched, high-quality, natural-looking crown visible on top. This fills any gaps that have been left behind by missing teeth, giving you a smile you can be proud of again! - You can eat whatever you like
Those that wear dentures will know that one of their drawbacks is being unable to chew certain foods. However, a dental implant is strong, sturdy, and functions just like your real teeth – meaning you can eat tough foods like steak and corn on the cob! - They are long-lasting
Dental implants provide a long-lasting solution to missing teeth, meaning you can forget you were ever missing any teeth in the first place! After successful integration with the jawbone, 90-95% of dental implants last over 10 years, and many last over twenty years. - Prevent bone loss
The key difference between dental implants and dentures or bridges is that an implant replaces the tooth root. This prevents bone loss in the area of the missing teeth and prevents changes to the shape of the face. Bones provide support for our facial tissues, which means that maintaining more bone structure will keep you looking youthful for longer! - They secure bridges and dentures
While dentures and bridges are an effective solution for many, some may feel inconvenienced by loose dentures, being unable to eat the foods they love, and lacking confidence when it comes to smiling and laughing. Dental implants provide an effective solution for securing bridges and dentures, so loose dentures are a problem of the past! - Comfortable
Once you have become accustomed to your new dental implants, it is easy to forget that they’re even there! Dental implants feel and function like a natural tooth. - Easy cleaning
Cleaning is an essential part of ensuring any restoration is long-lasting. However, dental implants can be cleaned just like a natural tooth. It’s important to make sure you brush thoroughly, floss every day, and see the hygienist regularly to maintain healthy gums around your implant.
