CEREC® is an advanced system for the fabrication of all-ceramic dental restorations in one surgery visit. You only need a single visit for a permanent, all-ceramic crown, inlay or onlay.
For you as a patient, this means fewer injections, less drilling, no uncomfortable impressions, no provisional crown and less time out of your hectic schedule. Most traditional dental restorative methods require more than one visit to the dentist. With CEREC® the procedure can be done in a single appointment, start to finish.
This treatment is offered by Dr Simon Burgess and Dr Henk Freeke. First, they examine the tooth and determine the appropriate treatment. It could be a simple filling or a full crown, depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining. Next, they administer an anaesthetic and prepare your tooth for the restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth tissue. This preparation is just like they would do for many other restorative techniques.
Then, they take an optical impression of the prepared tooth. This is instead of the traditional method of impression taking. With CEREC®, a high-definition camera is used to take a digital picture of your teeth and gum area.
Next, they use CEREC® to design the restoration for your tooth. CEREC® software converts the digital impression into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. Dr Burgess and Dr Freeke then use their dental expertise to design the new tooth. When completed, the design data is sent to a separate milling machine and the restoration is milled, there and then.
It takes between 10 and 20 minutes to mill a single restoration. It is then polished and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no temporary filling or return trip necessary. All this is done in a single appointment!
