CROWNS
A dental crown is an artificial restoration that fits over, or ‘caps’, teeth that have been broken or weakened by decay or a large filling. They allow us to rebuild the tooth, making it stronger and giving it the shape and appearance of a natural tooth.
Dental crowns can be made of porcelain or ceramic and are ideal for front teeth where aesthetics are paramount. Other materials available include gold, metal and acrylic. Generally stronger than porcelain, these alloys may be recommended for back teeth, where strength and durability are most important.
All-ceramic CEREC® crowns can be made and fitted all in one appointment.
BRIDGES
A dental bridge is a traditional form of treatment for tooth replacement, helping to restore your smile to a natural and aesthetic appearance.
Replacing the missing teeth with a bridge not only improves your appearance but will eliminate the risk of any remaining teeth rotating or shifting into the empty spaces. This imbalance could affect your “bite”, leading to decay, gum disease and temperomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges. Your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth/teeth, its function, aesthetics and cost.
