2020 is certainly proving to be an unprecedented year! No one could have predicted the far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and we are all having to adjust to new ways of living our lives.

At Ringley Park Dental Practice Reigate, we’re delighted to be welcoming our patients back and providing a full range of dental services, including endodontic and periodontic treatment, some of which had to be put on hold due to the pandemic,

We want to reassure all our patients undergoing treatment with us that we have all of the recommended infection control measures in place and we are following strict official guidelines to ensure that every procedure can be carried out safely.

Treating gum disease in Surrey
At Ringley Park Dental Practice, we provide periodontal treatment in the least invasive and safest manner possible. This includes scaling and careful cleaning of the teeth and root surfaces to remove plaque and tartar from gum pockets, in a procedure known as prophylaxis.

A prophylaxis undertaken with a slow speed handpiece, with no water, reduced prophy paste and due diligence is considered to be a non-aerosol generating procedure and can be safely undertaken by our team wearing the appropriate level of PPE.

joint statement published recently by the British Society of Periodontology (BSP) and the Office of Chief Dental Officer of England (OCDO), acknowledged that prophylaxis is an important part of professional plaque removal and is strongly recommended for patients with periodontitis.

While the guidance is rather technical in nature, the underlying message is that without appropriate prophylaxis treatment, patients are likely to encounter significant problems. We strongly recommend that all patients undergoing periodontal treatment continue to attend the practice as necessary and please be reassured that we have all the appropriate safety measures in place.

Root canal treatment

For patients undergoing endodontic treatment we are again abiding by official guidance, this time from the British Endodontic Society. By following this guidance we can perform endodontic treatment safely and effectively by employing the highest standards of infection control and wearing full PPE.

Root canal treatment is necessary when the blood or nerve supply to the tooth (the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. If left untreated, a painful infection or abscess can form and the tooth may need to be removed.

Our team has already given priority to those who had the initial stages of root canal treatment prior to lockdown, or had emergency treatment during lockdown. Now we are in a position to see any patient who requires endodontic treatment in order to save a tooth.

Back to business
As well as endodontic and periodontic treatment at Ringley Park, we are now able to once again offer our range of specialist services in Surrey, including:

  • Paediatric dentistry for the dedicated care of children and special-needs patients
  • CEREC® all-ceramic dental restorations in just one surgery visit
  • Orthodontic treatment including Invisalign®, fixed braces and orthopaedic orthodontics
  • Teeth whitening – the ultimate ‘feel-good’ treatment to freshen up your smile after lockdown!

We fully understand that some of our patients may still feel anxious about coming to see us, but we want to reassure everyone that we are doing everything possible to make your safety our top priority.
